Mt Olympus attempt in the winter

I’ve been wanting to set foot on top of Mt. Olympus for a while, and this sounded like a good opportunity. A group of CTC folks left Christchurch at 8 am and arrived at the lower Mt. Olympus ski field car park around 10:30. We followed the road for a bit and then veered off along a creek on our left, arriving at the upper car park at 12 pm. It became quite clear at that point that nobody was going to reach the summit of Mt. Olympus that day; it was way too late.

Somehow, we ended up in two groups. One group went up to the lodge to soak in a hot tub, while the other group, where I was, went up the ski field to the ridge at about 1850m. There was some confusion with the ski patrol, and we had to retrace our steps, so we couldn’t meet up with the other group at the lodge. We finally met with the other group around 3:45 pm at the upper car park and followed the road back to our cars. Well, at least we got our exercise for the week, and the views were truly worth it.

I lived a pretty ordinary life for a while. I did my studies, my second studies, my third studies, my first job, my second job, and my third job. I wasn’t really sure what’s going on so, in 2014, I left my home country (Czechia) to learn about the world. I’m still not sure what’s going on but I enjoy it much more. I lived in a few countries before settling in New Zealand.
