FFour weeks ago, I broke my toe. Since then, I've done some kayaking and I have to admit that I really like it! Yesterday, I paddled a few kilometers around Okains Bay and was joined by a few Hector's dolphins. Pretty special. Recently, I haven't been very good at posting here. Let's be honest: I'm not really an Instagram person. I also refuse to lug my heavy camera around, so I usually only take a few snapshots on my old phone... However, this is worth sharing: last weekend, we climbed to Waimakariri Falls Hut via Waimakariri Col. It was a pretty full-on but satisfying trip. Last weekend me and @alex_mac292 led a trip up to Jumble Top on the West Coast. It was one of the most scenic, not the most scenic and beautiful trips I've done in New Zealand. Incredible conditions with the sunrise on the tops. Quick trip to Oteake Conservation Area. 3 days of chilling with @hanssolo16 were quite fun - we mostly walked on 4WD tracks so not much thinking had to be involved which allowed us to catch up and rest in a tent a lot! Just came back from an overnight trip to Packhorse

Just came back from an overnight trip to Packhorse Hut with Elliot (my kid) and Nicolas + Irina + Adrian (another fam). It was quite hot and a wee bit windy but not too bad. The kids had fun and slept well, played in a creek, caught fish, found cikadas and spiders, saw kereru and came home knackered and dirty (mission accomplished!). The evening views from Packhorse are quite incredible actually. Good trip and we're gearing up for a family friendly trip to Woolshed Creek Hut with the @christchurchtrampingclub in a couple of weeks :) #packhorsehut #trampingincanterbury #trampingwithkids #bankspeninsula #tearapataka

A couple of weeks back, I took my kid, wife and a couple of other families tramping. We tried to reach Nina hut but half way through we came across Nina Valley Campsite which is close to perfection: flat grassy spot + river + forest + good swimming. It's "close to perfection" only because it gets an insane amount of sandflies. So we just stayed there, hung out for the rest of the day and it was one of the best trips of the season! I ventured off to Rocky and Griffin Creek Bivs. It's one of the closest proper West Coast tramping from Christchurch. I did a fair bit of track cutting which I found hugely satisfying so the first thing I did after I came back was I bought a cruise tape :) Next time, I'd like to go up to Scotty's Saddle via Griffin Creek. So, what I actually did in Abel Tasman was walk from Mārahau to Awaroa Bay, and I wanted to take Inland Track back. I did start it, but had to walk out early because I had an allergic reaction on long flowering grass that seemed to burn my legs. They got all puffy and swollen (photo on request 😆).
