Travers Peak in Lewis Pass

The plan was simple: Go from Travers Peak to Trovatore. The forecast wasn’t too bad, a wee bit cloudy with moderate winds. After arriving at Lewis Pass, the tops were in clouds. We followed a well marked track to the bushline where we had a wee lunch and off we went towards Travers Peak.

Soon we entered a grey, heavy cloud from which we received a decent amount of water on our sweaty bodies, which wasn’t ideal. We left our packs on the saddle just below the top, summitted without the packs and came back to the saddle. The general consensus was to end this freezing adventure and have a paint at Hurunui pub instead. It was the right decision, the temperature wasn’t too far from freezing and I wouldn’t be surprised if the rain turned into snow during the night.

Lesson learned: If the weather could go either way, go and chase the sun.

About the Author

Michal
I lived a pretty ordinary life for a while. I did my studies, my second studies, my third studies, my first job, my second job, and my third job. I wasn’t really sure what’s going on so, in 2014, I left my home country (Czechia) to learn about the world. I’m still not sure what’s going on but I enjoy it much more. I lived in a few countries before settling in New Zealand.
