My first trip ever that I led for the CTC was to Mt Oxford. This was my third trip leading up there. We started off at Coopers Creek carpark, from where we tackled the usual boggy section first and continued plodding up to the bushline. At the bushline, a prospective member stated in a very innocent voice, “Well, we’re almost there, most of the climb is behind us, right? [silence] Right??” We were about halfway, but I liked the honest tone of the question.
Once above the bushline, the wind picked up, and we were hit by NW winds until the final climb when the wind died down. After a short break at the top, we started rolling down the hill, passing the Peninsula Tramping Club along the way. I always stop at the Oxford Hotel, but this time we made a stop at the Oxford Pie Shop, and it was pretty good. I liked that the food was instant, so we didn’t have to wait long. However, someone commented that the lack of cider was an issue and should be considered in future refreshment stops in Oxford. I thought it was a fair remark.
