Mt Cloudsley via Long Spur – winter trip

Another trip to Mt Cloudsley – this time with Carmela – and we were fortunate enough to bump into Joanna and Michael at the Springfield bathrooms, who had exactly the same plan! So here we are, climbing Mt Cloudsley via Long Spur. It’s the most straightforward ascent in the Craigieburns: gentle, gradual, and great for people new to snow.

The most memorable part of the day was the inversion – it looked more like a sheet of glass than a three-dimensional cloud of evaporated water particles. What a sight.

The rest of the day was fairly uneventful: a long climb up and the same way back down. Beauty in simplicity.

Stats: 13.3 km, 7 h 25 min, 1420 m ascent

Participants: me + Carmela, Joanna and Michael

I lived a pretty ordinary life for a while. I did my studies, my second studies, my third studies, my first job, my second job, and my third job. I wasn’t really sure what’s going on so, in 2014, I left my home country (Czechia) to learn about the world. I’m still not sure what’s going on but I enjoy it much more. I lived in a few countries before settling in New Zealand.
