Godley Head with kiddos (0-6 years)

CTC tramps with kids continue! This time, there were 8 adults and 7 children aged from 1 to 6 years, along with one 11-year-old young lady. It’s truly amazing when there’s just one older child who takes charge of the younger ones and leads the way! We started off at Godley Head car park and very, very slowly made our way to the Lighthouse Generator Cottage. The kids climbed half the trees we passed, and the WWII batteries made for excellent hideaways during games of hide-and-seek.

From the WWII batteries, we continued along well-maintained paths to a “magic gate” that seemed to lead us into a different world: Boulder Bay. Here, we took about an hour-long break, during which we built stone walls and found pāua and crabs.

The last leg of our journey was the most challenging – perhaps more so for the parents than the kids: a steep climb back up along the council paths. It would have been a shame not to climb onto the roof of Scott’s Hut, which we did (some kids many times over), and from there, it was just a short walk back to the cars.

A great, slow-paced trip with some really lovely parents and kids.

About the Author

Michal
I lived a pretty ordinary life for a while. I did my studies, my second studies, my third studies, my first job, my second job, and my third job. I wasn’t really sure what’s going on so, in 2014, I left my home country (Czechia) to learn about the world. I’m still not sure what’s going on but I enjoy it much more. I lived in a few countries before settling in New Zealand.
